On 23 July 2021, Little Bodhi held some activities for the students to celebrate Racial Harmony Day and Hari Raya Haji. Due to the current safe management measures, we were not able to hold a big celebration together. Instead each class had its own mini-celebration.
In total, there were four different activities that had been planned by the teachers. In the first activity, the students made a decorative holder, incorporating images of Hari Raya Haji, using paper plates.
For the second activity, the children had a lot of fun coming up with designs to make bracelets and crowns. The bracelet and crowns are adorned with drawings to illustrate multi-racial Singapore.
The students also had a whale of a time to come up with the most interesting design for the next activity when they had to design a bookmark.
The highlight of the day was the ‘Ethnic Costume’ Competition. Each class was tasked to design an ethnic costume representing the different races here in Singapore, using crepe paper, old newspaper and other items which they might have in hand. At the end of the competition, the student had to model their design and give a brief explanation of their design.
All in all, these activities help to develop the students’ creativity and hone their fine motor skills further, and were specially curated to bring out a smile in our students. And smile they did, all the way home!
