Little Bodhi Outing (LBO) to Woodlands Botanical Garden (WBG)

On Friday, 31 May 2024, our Little Bodhi students went on a learning journey to the Woodlands Botanical Garden. The Woodlands Botanical Garden (WBG) is a community garden started as a ground-up initiative by Mr Ganesh Kumar in July 2020. It occupies the northern slope of Woodlands Town Park East, near Blk 134. This 9-storey garden spans more than 2,500 sqm. WBG is now home to 350 plant species, including 250 ornamental plants. Not only that, native birds, bees and butterflies also call WBG home.

Though many of our Little Bodhi students reside in Woodlands, many were not aware of the existence of this beautiful garden. The students set out in high spirits to WBG. As the students went up the path to the hilltop, they excitedly started their nature scavenger hunt… looking for a seed pod, a bug, flying butterflies, boulders and a stick shaped like a letter of the alphabet among many others. The vigilant ones caught sight of a caterpillar hiding among the green leaves while many were in awe of the many colourful, beautiful flowers as they ploughed up the hill. Their nature scavenger hunt had them looking for the many different flora and fauna that can be found at WBG.

After their break, the students had a few rounds of outdoor games before setting back to the centre. All in all, the trip not only enhances the students’ understanding of the rich flora and fauna in our local area, but also helps to foster a better understanding and respect for nature…
