On 7th Jul 2013, the Management organized a team building event to Chek Jawa walk@Puala Ubin.
It was a sunny Sunday morning and a total of 18 people consisting of staff from LBSCC, Management Committee and their families gathered at Changi Village Jetty.
From there, we took a 10 minutes bumboat ride to the Puala Ubin Island. Upon reaching the Island, we boarded the vans that brought us to Chek Jawa.
To our utter surprise, we were greeted by a family of wild boars when we alighted. This was indeed a strange and rare occurrence for us to cross path with this ordinary yet seldom sighted jungle creatures. We spent some time taking some memento photos. It was definitely a unique and awesome experience.
The tour around Chek Jawa was guided by our Chairman Joe Tham. We continued to stroll along the mangrove boardwalk and saw many common nature and objects that were educational to everyone. On one side of the boardwalk at certain sections are steel gratings where you can peer down to take a closer look at the sea life during low tides. We spotted the Nipa palms, their seeds commonly known as ‘ah tah chee’ are found in local dessert ice-kachang. The children were excited when they saw monitor lizard and tiny crabs in the muddy waters. As it was high tide, we did not get a chance to view most of the exotic marine creatures and starfish.
We also climbed up the Jejawi Tower, the highest point on the boardwalk to have an unobstructed view of the sea and mangroves. On our way, we passed by a heritage building built in the 1930s and stop at the quarry to enjoy the beautiful scenery.
Our trip ended with a sumptuous lunch at Puala Ubin. The trip was indeed a good way of taking a break from the hassle and bustle of city life. It also allows the younger generations to experience the olden days of Singapore.
